A Sugar Busters Diet Plan: Make the Change…

The sugar busters diet plan originally gained popularity in New Orleans.  It’s very similar to a low carb diet, but instead of the focus being on carbs, it’s just on sugar.  Balance is key in this diet, again similar to a low carb diet.  One can eat more carbs, however in either diet, if you’re cutting down on sugary foods the goal is pretty much the same: a good balance of foods that help optimize health and fitness.

Following three simple steps to get started on such a sugar busters diet plan can be helpful: reviewing one’s eating patterns, reducing sugary foods, and substitution.  These steps can help one start any diet, just alter them to fit the specifics of the diet chosen.

It’s always a good idea to start by working with a nutritionist or doctor, to make sure that your diet fits what you need.  Starting a list wherein one records everything he or she eats for a week or two, and then  reviewing it to get a detailed idea of  eating habits, will show areas needing improvement.  It will expose the foods that are too sugary to include in a sugar busters diet plan so one can begin a new plan that reduces or eliminates them altogether.

Reducing Sweets for a Sugar Busters Diet Plan

No Sweets Allowed: The Sugar Busters Diet Plan

The hardest part of the sugar busters diet for those with a sweet tooth is saying goodbye to the sweet stuff.  All the sugary foods need to go or at least be significantly reduced.  No more donuts, cake or candy… and the high glycemic carbs need to go too.  Basically a lot of the “white” carbs, such as white bread, white rice, and floury based foods.  Also fruits such as pineapple and raisins, and potatos should be reduced for the same reason.

Sugary Food Substitution for a Sugar Busters Diet Plan

Similar to a low carb diet, in a sugar busters diet plan one can fill in the areas where sugary foods have been reduced with proteins, fruits and vegetables, and low-fat dairy products.

Carbs aren’t outlaws in this diet, whole grain foods and legumes are acceptable.  For those who like carbs, the sugar busters diet plan might be a better fit for them.  However, the “white” carbs should still be reduced and whole grains and legumes should be used as substitutes for them.

Change to any new diet can be a challenge.  Following these three start up steps can help one get going.  If you love carbs, the sugar busters diet plan might be the diet for you.  But if you have a sweet tooth, this might be one that will cause heartache.  For some of us, saying goodbye to sweets may take more will power than some of the other diets out there.  A combination low carb, low sugar diet might be a possibility.

One just has to keep in mind the ultimate goal – a balanced diet that keeps one healthy and meets individual fitness needs.  The sugar busters diet plan may be a good one that puts a little challenge into it as well.
